Matt Lussier from Hedgesville, West Virginia is a Freelance Media/graphic Designer, a Visual Performer/VJ and Multimedia Presenter. EDIROL made him a happy guy when we announced that with his winning photographs he'd won the EDIROL P-1 photo presenter by participating in our P-1 photo contest. It's no wonder that Lussier entered our contest as he was already a fan of EDIROL gear with two other pieces of EDIROL gear: the four channel video mixer V-4, and the low-light performance camera CCD-1.

Matt_LussierWhen Lussier first got his hands on the P-1 he took it to shows as an emergency backup and when twice his animation computers went down he switched over to the P-1. Now completely integrated into Lussier's setup, the P-1 is more than just a backup unit and has become an invaluable tool for all of his shows where multimedia is centric.

Kidzturn

Lussier uses the P-1 at two different venues one being Kidzturn. The Kidzturn multimedia master, Lussier is part of a six member team that produces children's ministry shows utilizing multimedia, energetic lighting and music, games and prizes, comedy and puppets. Incorporating the "FDA recommended daily allowance of absolute insanity" each show is 90 minutes and is performed 4-5 times a week, 45 weeks a year.

The other performing venue for the P-1 is youth conferences where typically over 3,000 kids are wowed by Lussier and his crew's performances. Here the P-1 acts as a computer graphics still storage unit and their "emergency logo bail-to".

In both Kidzturn and youth conferences the P-1 allows instant access to Lussier's images as well as to over 30 sound effects that are stored as wav or MP3 formats for his scheduled (and un-scheduled) file retrieval. He elaborates: "The only other way to do this would be by using software and another laptop. The P-1 is much smaller, much more intuitive, a lot quicker to operate, and because of the touch screen I don't have to look constantly at what I'm doing."

Lussier uses audio files that trigger background stills and because he's mixing between DVD media, laptop presentations and animation, a dependable collection of custom-made slides is always ready to add in if need be. Lussier's graphic design skills facilitate the creation of 640 by 480 graphics and he makes them instantly available to present into a program through his V-4 video mixer or alone on the P-1. It's his strong graphics background that made him the winner in our P-1 photo contest in the first place!

This series of four pictures entitled "Orange Tek" were the winning photographs in the EDIROL P-1 contest and when played through the P-1, they dance.

When we asked Lussier what he liked best about the P-1, he sited: 1) low latency audio and picture triggering; 2) quick boot-up and access with "flash" storage; 3) no storage limits with PC card memory adapter and 4) "ok... the touch screen is really, really cool!".

IMG_2570Lussier concludes with: "I like the design of EDIROL gear and the balance of features and value. The units I have are rugged enough for road use and small enough to pull from the rack and use in smaller settings. I feel comfortable with the P-1's adaptability in unique situations. It goes with my gear at every show because it is always ready to provide instant media without the worry of computer crashes or unforeseen computer "issues". The EDIROL P1 is a "Swiss Army" video device. It is the only thing like it and in certain applications it is invaluable."
