Tennessee Titan's A/V Crew Incorporates PR-80
titan_logo_150x150As their video presenter at football games, the Titans AV crew rely on the EDIROL PR-80.

An NFL team, the Tennessee Titans has a lot of high end gear such as Grass Valley switchers and yet they use the affordable EDIROL presenter the PR-80, because it allows the Titan's video crew to do what they need to do, painlessly.

When it was time to update their $30,000.00 video presenter, audio and video engineer Justin Brant questioned if there might be a better solution for the Titans and after talking with a trusted colleague, called EDIROL.

tnantwan_odomNow that they have the PR-80 which cost them less than $7,000.00, they've not only saved a chunk of change but have gained the ability to be more spontaneous with their content during football games. The touchscreen that is used with the PR-80 allows them to see their clips easily and pull them up instantly on their Jumbotron, the mammoth screen that backs the football field.

Giving them the feel of linear deck access, the Titan gameday operators love the PR-80 controller's shuttle wheel so they can queue tapes as they did with their linear system eight years ago. The PR-80 and its controller provide them with the "hands-on" advantage of switching between video sources and the "hands-off" advantage of complete stability. One of the PR-80's biggest selling features is its RELIABILITY and the Titans use of the PR-80 is an excellent case in point. Over the past year, the PR-80 has been used at the Titan stadium for about 20 prime time events, 10 of which were NFL games, 4 Tennessee State University games, the Music City Bowl and other club events. They've never had so much as a hiccup with their presentations using the PR-80.

PR-80 SetupHis "video jukebox" as Brant refers to his PR-80, lets him satisfy fans with action packed video clips. (Over the years, Brant has observed a trend for their video content. When the Titans are winning a smaller number of video clips can be rotated because not only is everyone watching the game more intently, but the crowd isn't as critical as they are when the team is losing!) With a removable hard drive, the PR-80 allows an endless supply of video clips to be accessed when needed. "Head morphs" are a favorite to throw in because they can be accessed so easily on the PR-80. These player head shots are shown at the beginning of the game and then again when a player scores a touchdown so having FAST access to these head morphs is imperative and the PR-80 makes it easy to bring them up on the screen.

When Brant first looked at the PR-80 he thought that the lack of SDI inputs meant that they couldn't use it but found that by connecting the PR-80 to an SD connect box, there isn't a significant difference in the visual output quality. Their audio is then processed from the PR-80 out to a delay box to compensate for any delays that the converter introduces.

Sponsor ads run throughout the football game and these ads are usually supplied to Brant so they rarely have the need for a non-linear editor however emergencies arise from time to time. Brant recalls a game when they loaded in a promotional clip by the wrestler Rock, and the audio was off from the video - game operators were able to throw it into the PR-80's editor and adjust the audio minutes before airing.

Brant sums up the value of the EDIROL PR-80 to the Tennessee Titans with this: "We have sampled other presentation tools and found them to be inferior to the EDIROL PR-80. The PR-80 couples user-friendliness with rock solid technology to put the operators mind at ease and make any production seamless."
